This notice explains how Pier Counsel (“we”, “us”) collects and uses personal data through this website, piercounsel.com, and the choices you have. It is written with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025 in mind.

What we collect

• Enquiries. When you use the contact form, we collect your name, email address, and message, and, if you choose to give them, your phone number, company, preferred date for a call, and the service you are interested in.
• Job applications. When you apply through the careers form, we collect your name, email address, the role you are applying for, your cover note, your resume, and, if you choose to give it, your LinkedIn profile.
• Emails. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message.
• Technical data. Like most websites, our hosting provider automatically records limited technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested, to deliver and secure the website.

We do not use advertising or analytics cookies, and we do not track you across other websites. When you accept the disclaimer, your browser stores a small note (in local storage) so we don’t show it again; it contains no personal data and stays on your device.

Why we use it

• To respond to your enquiry and, where relevant, to check for conflicts of interest before discussing a possible engagement.
• To assess your job application and contact you about it.
• To operate, maintain and protect the website.
• To comply with our legal and professional obligations.

We process the data you submit through our forms on the basis of the consent you give when you submit them. Where the law allows, we may also process data for legitimate uses, such as complying with a legal obligation.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with:

• service providers who host this website and process form submissions on our behalf, and who provide our email services, under contracts that require them to protect it;
• our professional advisers, where needed; and
• courts, regulators or authorities, where the law requires it.

Where it is processed

Our website hosting and form-processing providers may store or process data outside India. Any such transfer is made in line with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and any restrictions notified by the Government of India.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiry data for as long as we need it to respond to you and for our professional record-keeping. We keep job applications for up to 12 months after the recruitment process ends, unless you ask us to delete them sooner or you join us. We then delete or anonymise the data.

Your rights

Subject to the law, you have the right to:

• ask for information about the personal data we hold about you and how we use it;
• ask us to correct, complete, update or erase your personal data;
• withdraw your consent at any time (this does not affect processing already carried out);
• nominate another person to exercise your rights if you die or become incapable; and
• have a grievance addressed by us.

To exercise any of these rights, email contact@piercounsel.com with the subject line “Data protection request”. We may need to confirm your identity before acting on your request.

Grievances

If you have a concern about how we handle your personal data, please write to us first at contact@piercounsel.com, and we will respond within the time required by law. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

Security

The website is served over an encrypted connection, and we use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, so please do not send confidential information through our forms.

Children

This website is not intended for children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18.

Other websites

This website links to other websites, such as LinkedIn, Google Maps and Google Drive. Those websites have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for them.

Changes to this notice

We may update this notice from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
